Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle KStJ DL (May 22, 1859 – July 7, 1930) was a British writer and physician.

He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for “A Study in Scarlet” the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. – Wikipedia

Keeping with the Tolkien desire to mash-up literature the film director Peter Jackson improvised some movie scenes including the Thorin vs Azog final battle scene in The Hobbit: Battle of the 5 Armies (2014) movie. The scene is a great depiction of Sherlock Holmes style literature where the outmatched Thorin steps back and permits Azog to defeat himself at least temporarily.
